Riding a school bus can be fun. Some school bus fetches children from their home while others have designated bus stops.

Waiting at the school bus stop alone can be scary especially for little kids. As we all know kidnapping is rampant in many parts of the world and some are already making a business out of it. To prevent your child from being a target for potential abduction, it is important to teach your child some basic safety information.

First and foremost, teach your child to memorize some basic identification information like his name, parents name, address, and contact information like phone number. Unified ID also eyed for voters, senior citizens

MANILA, Philippines - The Social Security System (SSS) is in talks with other government agencies for the Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card (UMID) to be used as voters' and senior citizens' IDs.

The pension fund for private sector workers said it is also asking the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to allow people to use UMIDs to get passports.

SSS President and CEO Emilio de Quiros, however, clarified that the new ID system should not be construed as a national ID since the issuance is not mandatory and it only carries basic information.

The new ID system does not reveal properties or bank accounts owned by SSS members.

The SSS launched the new ID system on Monday, with the arrival of the initial batch of 5,000 cards that will have to undergo quality check.

The UMID system covers members of SSS, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) and Pag-IBIG Fund. The SSS is the lead agency handling the project.

The SSS said the cards will be mailed to members who have long applied for SSS IDs.

The number of those who are waiting for their SSS cards has ballooned to 607,000, while new applicants number over 120,000.

They will be prioritized in the issuance of the new cards.

Cost

Everyone wants to get the best deal they can but, a cheap tripod will not enhance your photography. The little $10.00 aluminum ones are good for nothing, unless you plan on taking all your photos while it’s set up on your coffee table.

For a point and shoot camera, you may get by spending under $50.00. If you have a DSLR, plan on spending at least $100.00. There’s always the option of buying a used tripod to save costs as long as you know what to look for.

Folded Height

For travel, you need to know how small you can fold your tripod. Will it fit in a suitcase, backpack or a carrying case that you can wear comfortably on your shoulder?

Weight

Barcode Printing Inconsistently with a Fargo DTC550

If your printing with a Fargo DTC500 printer and your bar code printing is not consistent, you may need to follow this tip:

The light printing of the black in the barcodes is caused by the angle of the printhead being to small. Note that the barcode darkens to normal as the print approaches the center of the card. Increasing the printthead angle will darken the beginning of the barcode. After adjusting the angle of the printhead it may be necessary to raise the Ribbon Peel-Off Bar.

Persona C30e – How to Calibrate the Ribbon

To calibrate the ribbon sensor, click the Start button in the lower left corner of your monitor and select Settings. Then select Printers and Faxes. Depending on your installation of Windows, you may need to go to the Control panels and then select Printers.

In the Printers and Faxes window, Right Click on the driver for your printer and select Printing Preferences from the list.

In the Persona C30e Card Printer Printing Preferences window, Select the Calibrate tab and then click the Sensors button.

For the C30 and C30e printers follow the instructions in the Calibration window to calibrate the ribbon sensor. When the calibration is complete, the printer will beep twice.

Note that for the C30 or C30e printer, you must cover the front of the printer before clicking the send button to prevent ambient light from entering the printer as it may negatively impact the ribbon calibration process.

Evolis Pebble 4 – All the Lights are On

If you are trying to print your custom printed cards on your Evolis Pebble and find you can’t, adjustments are needed to continue printing. If you notice that all of the lights on the printer are lit, follow the steps below to see if the problem can be fixed.

1. Check to see which ribbon is in the printer. Make sure it is a 5 panel YMCKO color ribbon
2. Go to the print queue and clear it out. Once you have cleared the print que out, restart the printer so it starts fresh
3. Open and close the print head. Make sure that the color ribbon is in the correct place upon closure.
4. Check their printer graphics settings. Make sure that the correct ribbon is selected.
5. Once you have done all this, try to print again.

If the steps above turn off the extra lights that are on, you should be able to continue printing. If the problem is not fixed, additional steps are needed to reset the printer. The best thing to do is contact the ID card integrator company that provided you with the printer for technical assistance.

Everybody wants and needs love, and everybody actually feels it and have it in so many different ways, but why can't we find a universal meaning for love. Each one of us has its own definition of love but what's right for someone might be totally wrong for another. And that makes me wonder, with all those interpretations and definitions, how could we really know if we are really in love or we are just in love with the idea of being in love?

Of course, I'm talking here about romantic love. We may feel or think that something is right but what if everybody finds it wrong, can it still be considered love? It's really true that love is blind, we get blinded by the feelings we have for that moment, and do things that we think is right, But when love decides to leave, soon we realize that all those things we used to believe to be right was just plain stupidity. Why could something so good could hurt so bad and why something so wonderful could break your heart into pieces? Yet, despite the pain and all the uncertainties, we sometimes tend to cling to love and forget to know when to say it's enough and let go.

One thing's for sure, love is complicated and mysterious, we can't fully define or understand it because it has its own reasons that no matter how hard we try, we can never fathom its depths. It's a gift that's given freely and we can never force it to stay. All we can do is to accept it when it arrives and let it go when it decides to leave. When it arrives, we might know how long it will stay, all we can do is cherish it while we still have it. It might not be always right but it will always give you memories that will last a lifetime. One day, when you look back, you can say to yourself, all the pain was worth all the happiness I had and you'll be more than enough willing to be in love all over again.

How to Deal with the Negative Effects of the Working on Night Shift

* Bright Lights: While at work during the night, try to be in as much bright light as possible. A full-spectrum light would be best, but any increase in light will help your body to regulate its sleep/wake cycle.

* Limit Caffeine: Use caffeine only in the early part of your shift. Try to avoid it toward the end of your shift so you will be able to go right to sleep when it's time.
* Limit Shift Changes: Try to stay on one schedule for as long as possible. Shifting between day and night work is especially hard on the body.

It is also important to choose comfortable clothing, pillows and bed. If there are mosquitoes in your place, use mosquito nets or apply anti-mosquito lotion or oil. As much as possible keep your surroundings clean. Always remember that clean surroundings has a positive effect on your sleep.

Fargo DTC550 Printer Head Pressure Adjustment

The following procedures provided from technical support personnel are offered to balance the printhead pressure on the DTC-550 series printers. You may need to balance the printhead when the edges of the top or bottom of the the plastic ID card print too light.

Warning! Remove all jewelry, rings, watches, bracelets etc. from your wrists and hands before beginning work with the printhead. The printing edge is extremely fragile and is easily damaged. It is strongly advised that you work in a static protected area.

Loosen but, do not remove, the two peel off bar hold down screws. DO NOT let the peel-off bar come into contact with the printing edge as it may result in damage that can seriously affect print quality.

To balance the printhead pressure, either lower the end of the printhead that is printing light or raise the opposite end of the printhead. Typically, the printhead is assembled with the print edge at its lowest point making it necessary to raise the end of the print edge that is opposite the light edge. Usually about 1/64 of an inch is sufficient. Raising or lowering the print edge too much will result in a light edge on the opposite side of the card.

After loosening the two peel off bar hold down screws, only loosen the printhead mounting screw on the end of the printhead that you wish to raise or lower. DO NOT loosen the other printhead mounting screw.

The following procedure can be used to adjust the Ribbon Peel-Off Bar on the Fargo DTC-550 series printers. You may need to adjust the peel off bar when the color printed on the plastic ID card from the printer is not consistent in intensity across the entire surface of the card.

The ribbon peel-off bar should be adjusted to the lowest point possible without allowing any pressure on the card. If it is adjusted too low, the card will bump into it and cause a line to appear on the card. If it is adjusted too high, the ribbon will lift off the card too soon and cause ribbon wrinkle.

To raise or lower the ribbon peel-off bar, loosen but, do not remove, both peel-off bar hold-down screws.

Raise or lower the Peel-Off bar by adjusting the Peel-Off bar adjustment screws. Turn the screws clockwise to raise the Peel-Off bar and counter-clockwise to lower it. Generally both ends should be raised or lowered equally to keep the Peel-Off bar parallel to the printing edge of the printhead.

After raising or lowering the Peel-Off bar, tighten the Peel-Off bar hold-down screws.

1. Remove the feeder cover by pressing in on the left side and pivoting out the right corner.
2. Place the feeder extension on top of the printer case and align the holes.
3. Insert screws into the three holes and tighten slightly.
4. Place the bottom corner of the feeder onto the small raised pivot point. Place the top pivot point into the hole in the feeder extension.
5. Completely tighten the screws.

Printer Cleaning Instructions:

Clean the printer after 1000 color prints or 5000 monochrome prints. The LCD will display “clean printer” to remind you of this. For best results, clean the printer as soon as possible after this message displays.

1. Leave the printer on and press the button. Hold the button for 3 seconds. The LCD will display “remove ribbon and close head.”
2. Open the printer lid and push the blue release arrow forward. Lift up the printhead carriage.
3. Remove the ribbon spools.
4. Close the head carriage. The LCD with display “empty feeder and press button.”
5. Open the feeder lid and remove all cards but the bottom card. This card will remain in the feeder until you press the eject button.
6. Load the cleaning card in the feader. Place the small cleaning card in the card feeder. The belt will move it in halfway and continue to clean other parts of the printer. The small card will be ejected when it has finished cleaning.
7. The LCD will display “press button to continue.” Feed the long cleaning card into the card feeder exit slot. It will move back and forth as it cleans. The LCD will display “cleaning printer.”
8. When completed, the LCD screen will display “ready.” You may return the ribbon spools, reload cards and resume printing.

If you notice spots or streaks, you may need to clean the printhead.

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Lift the carriage and remove the print ribbon.
3. Sqeeze the plastic cleaning swab stick to move the liquid into the tip.
4. Move the moistened swab side to side across the elements. Wait 2 minutes.
5. Turn the printer back on and return the print ribbon.

• Keep track of what is in your bank account to avoid overdraft fees.

Replacing a 60 percent Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency standard furnace with a 91 percent AFUE will save 34 percent each year on heating bills. For a typical Billings home, that could amount to $194 to $255 in savings per year.

• Turn down the thermostat at night or when away from the house. Better yet, install a programmable thermostat that automatically turns it down.

You can save 1 percent each year on heating costs for every degree Fahrenheit the thermostat is lowered during an eight-hour period.

If you reduce the heat from 73 F to 68 degrees while you are at work and at night while you sleep, you could save 10 percent annually. That could amount to $57 to $75 in savings per year, based on a natural gas price of $7.50 per decatherm.

• Change or clean the furnace filter every one or two months when the furnace is in use. If the filter is clogged, warm air can’t get through and goes up the chimney.

• Keep furnace and appliances well-maintained.

• Appliances account for about 17 percent of household energy use. Refrigerators, clothes washers and dryers generally use the most energy.

Except for towels and sheets, wash most of the rest of your laundry in cold water with a cold-water detergent.

• Turn the temperature on the refrigerator to between 36 and 38 degrees Fahrenheit and the freezer to zero. Unplug any refrigerator or freezer not used.

• Seal off air leaks by caulking around windows and weather stripping cracks and gaps.

• Install foam gaskets under light switches and outlet covers.

• If you don’t have storm windows, plastic storm window kits pay for themselves in energy savings.

• In older homes, insulation in the attic and blown-in cellulose or foam in the walls will pay for itself.

• Replace incandescent bulbs with compact florescent bulbs, which use two-thirds less energy. Replacing bulbs in five of the lights that you use the most can save up to $60 a year.

• When buying new appliances look for the Energy Star label that indicates the appliance has met federal standards for energy savings and uses at least 30 percent less energy than similar models.

• Replace energy-deficient appliances for more energy-efficient ones and get a rebate of $100 for Energy-Star-rated refrigerators and washing machines, $70 for freezers and $50 for dishwashers in the federal Cash for Appliances program.

The program won’t start in Montana until April 2010, after a vendor has been hired to process rebate forms. Watch for more details about the program through news outlets and appliance dealers.

Bar Codes Not Working when Scanned

One of the reasons that the bar code will not read may be that the printer driver settings are incorrect in the id card printer that is printing on the PVC card. The id card printer may be set to print a process called a “composite card.” This process is incorrect as the bar code needs to be printed by a true resin black process.

If you think your id card printer is not printing in true resin black. Follow the procedures below to check and/or correct your printer settings.

1. Pull out the print ribbon from your printer after you have printed a card containing a bar code.

2. Look at each panel of the ribbon that has printed the card containing the bar code.

3. If you see places in each of the various ribbon panels that look like the bar code, the printer has built the bar code by using color panels. This is the composite printing and the bar code will not work correctly in most instances.

4. To change the printer settings to require the bar code print in resin black, go to the K-resin tab in your print driver.

5. Set the tab to print K-resin black for the bar code.

6. Apply the settings.

Here are some tips on how to deal with the frustrations of being stuck in an unsatisfying work environment and renew enthusiasm for your job.

1. Make a pain and pleasure list. Ben Ampil, managing director of the Amplius Training Consultancy Group, recommends making a "pain and pleasure" list. If you think your job is dreary, you can reverse this mindset by thinking about more pain you will have if you don't have a job.

List down the inconveniences and hassles that would arise if your boss suddenly fires you like unpaid bills or losing your home and car. You can also associate more pleasure with the job that you have like a favorite officemate or a time when your boss commended you for a job well done. "You may soon find yourself nodding and saying to yourself, 'This is a great job after all!'," Ampil said.

2. Find the source of your discontent. What makes your job distasteful? Analyze if it is working itself t or a specific factor in your current job (a demanding boss, difficult colleagues, low salary). Ampil said if you disdain the concept of work, then changing jobs is not the answer. "However, if your dissatisfaction stems from a specific condition, then that could be addressed," he said.

3. Be part of the solution. If the cause of your job dissatisfaction can be addressed, Ampil suggests proactive ways to make the best out of your situation. When approaching your boss or human resources officer to discuss your concerns, it is important that you have constructive recommendations to offer. "Merely whining about your lot in life without offering any reasonable alternatives is a surefire formula for exacerbating your discontent - and endangering your upcoming performance appraisal," Ampil said.

4. Find friends. Enjoying companions at work can actually help you see a bright spot in a dreary job. According to medical technologist Vanessa Tabernejo, finding friends at work "keeps you sane and gives you reasons to stay in your job."

5. Take a vacation. Whenever possible, take a vacation to help clear your mind and get a new perspective on things. Fatigue and stress can contribute to frustrations and negative feelings toward work. Relaxation and a simple change of pace and environment can be soothing to your soul.

6. Be thankful. It would also help if you acquire an "attitude of gratitude." Count your blessings. The fact that you have a job already sets you apart from millions of Filipinos who are not as fortunate.
